Day 16
Saturday was yet another eventful day. After returning from the ball around 1:30 am, I woke up at 6:30 am for our next adventure: a day trip to Bratislava, Slovakia. A short, two hour bus ride for €10 roundtrip? Count me in. We departed Vienna around 8:25 am and arrived in Bratislava around 9:30 am. Of course I snoozed. We didn't really have a game plan for the day, just to take it as it came. First, we went to a cute cafe for coffee and croissants. We noticed a large castle sitting atop a hill, because ya know, castles are kinda hard to miss. Anyway, we wanted to see more so we wandered around outside of the castle and came across the view in the first picture. We then made our way to the Main Square in Old Town. After walking around for a bit, I happened upon Wine Not!? so I figured, wine not!? Two other girls and I sat down and enjoyed a glass of wine. Later on, we met up with everyone else who had decided to go to a cafe instead. We sat down and joined them, and less than five minutes later I had this itching urge to be alone. I stood up, told them I was going for a walk by myself, and made my exit. Headphones in and head bopping, I sauntered the streets of Bratislava. I really like my own company. I walked around, saw some things, and...wait for it...found myself with another glass of wine in hand. I really don't know how it got there. Maybe I ordered it. Who knows. I sat, pondered, and sipped on my wine until I saw everyone else walking by and decided to join them again. A little while later, everyone wanted to continue walking, but I was hungry and couldn't wait any longer so I left them again. I found this cool place and a seat calling my name outside. I treated myself to the fourth picture, which was pretty good. I met up with everyone after and sat with them as they ate, and then we decided on gelato. One raspberry scoop later, I was ready to leave and experience our first night out in Vienna. Bratislava is a neat city (not as neat as Prague or Vienna), but there wasn't much to do so I wouldn't want to spend longer than a day there. We made the right call on the whole quick, inexpensive day trip thing. Our bus left around 7:30 pm, which put us back in Vienna around 8:30 pm. We were ready to go by 10. Luckily, our Australian pals from Prague were visiting Vienna so we all met up at Travelshack to have a few drinks. Okay, a lot of drinks. Later on in the night, they encouraged me to take an absinthe shot. I accepted the challenge, walked up to the bar, and ordered the shot. The bartender looked me up and down and politely said, "Maybe you should try something else. Absinthe is a little strong." I quickly retorted, "Yeah, so am I. Give me the shot." And down it went. I finally made it home around 3:30 am. Another fun night for the books and another weekend of minimal sleep, but hey, Liv is livin.
